2021 good year for european tyre market
Compared to 2020, 2021 was a good year for the European tyre replacement market. These are the figures from the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA). The OE market for tyres did decline, however, by 8 percent.
The fact that fewer tyres could be delivered to car manufacturers has everything to do with the limited production as a result of the chip shortage. In contrast, deliveries to the OE market for trucks increased by an impressive 25 percent.
Tyre replacement market
In the fourth quarter alone, the replacement market for consumer tyres rose by 13 percent. For the year as a whole, it was 14 percent, with a particular increase in the all-season tyre segment, which rose by 35 percent. The replacement market for summer and winter tyres increased by 9 per cent.
« Although it is a challenging time, tyre manufacturers see opportunities in many areas as the industry changes at lightning speed in response to new developments in vehicle technology, mobility and regulation, » said ETRMA Secretary General Fazilet Cinaralp. « Our industry has proven agile during the pandemic and we look forward to continuing this positive trend in 2022, to return to 2019 volumes.
